3-D Printing Tech Session

January 17 @ 8:00 am 5:00 pm

Kevin created and taught classes in 3D design (CAD) and 3D printing at a local high school for 5 years, and has served as the design & fabrication mentor for an award-winning robotics team for over 8 years. In addition, Kevin has more than 10 years of experience in making 3D printed and machined replacement parts for cars and items around the home, as well creating and successfully marketing his own novel 3D-printed designs.

3D printing isn’t really difficult to learn – it can be lots of fun, and it’s quite a useful skill.  Attend this session and see what it’s all about!

In this Tech Session Kevin plans to cover the following:
• Uses for 3D printing in the classic car arena, and around the home • How to locate the proper files for parts already designed by others, so you can print them yourself • How to design your own part – the basics of choosing the software and some simple techniques • How to pick a printer – what to look for, brands, etc. • How to decide what material to use to print with – limitations & advantages of different materials • How to orient, ‘slice’, and then print a part – basics of software and introductory tips & techniques • How to print in multiple colors • How to design and print parts for maximum strength
Obviously this a LOT to cover, hence this is an ‘introduction’ and not a full instructional course on the subject. If there is interest in a full course, he will be happy to discuss that at the end of the session.
